A friend came up with a good idea: Twitterbacks, Pingbacks for Twitter. I suggest that Summize jump on that, but that's because I like Summize more than the others.
To start, I don't hate the idea of OpenID, I'm just passionate in my reasonings. As with everything else.
It has been noted by various people, various people I will quote as soon as I can find them again, that OpenID is a nifty idea with many logic holes. And I personally get stuck on the DRM issue. For those that don't get what I'm saying, I'll lead you. (more…)
Blender is a magazine for men too pussified to buy a Playboy. The same can be said for a lot of men's magazines. I was on a plane once, in business class and this guy in a suit was reading Playboy, reading the shit out of it. That was awesome, that man had balls. Then again, there were only men in business class that trip.
Anyway, someone linked me to something on Blender's site and I noticed that two of the ads enticing you to buy Blender had different prices on it. One the same page. See the image. One said $0.66/issue, while lower on the page $0.62/issue. I know this is a small wtf, but oh well. Today was a slow day.
I'm currently working on rebuilding audafe from the ground up in terms of both the layout and code. Hopefully make it prettier for the masses.
pingPressFM is a WordPress plugin to spread your blog posts via Ping.fm to 10+ sNetworks. You can download it from the WordPress Repository or the project page. Current version: 2.1.1 (at time of writing).
The site itself is simple to explain: there is a big textbox, post whatever you want in it. That message is sent to 10+ social networks using accounts set up for Pongonymous (pong-on-amous). A good way to get your griefs out about something web2o-style. Visit the page here, and there is the project page over here.
Primarily because it will take a live, up-to-the-second, service that has made its mark with being a live, up-to-the-second service and spits on that entire concept. If you add decentralization, meaning multiple servers with copies of the same data, what happens is that you no longer have a live service. Depending on the number of servers you have in your swarm, the time it takes for information to be completely, identically cloned increases x-seconds per server in the swarm. And the number of servers that Twitter would need for an effective approach would make the cloning process take at least 30 seconds*. And that's how long it would take for you to be sure that every person on your list has your latest tweet. Now I answer questions I was never asked. (more…)
Okay, so I have finished my WordPress plugin that allows you to send your blog posts to Ping.fm and be formatted for all the various sNetworks you have signed up for via Ping.fm. I won't go too deeply into the inner-workings of the plugin as it does that on the project's page. But one of the main features I believe most will enjoy is that you don't have to edit any files of WordPress to make the plugin work. Just install, activate, update account, done.
Worth noting is that Ping.fm is working on their own WordPress plugin, as well as a third-party API. This plugin's existence is mainly due to the fact I'm an impatient person.
Comments are appreciated, but please put it on the project page.
As of this post, Twitter is still down. And barring server problems, I place the blame on Ruby on Rails. I fucking hate RoR, and all projects that use it are marred in failure. I just wanted you to know that. Later on, I'll make a longer post about why I don't like RoR, but for now I have work to do and have wasted enough time on Twitter.
Quick and dirty: SVN is version control software. Mantis is a web-based bug tracking in PHP you can install on your server. And Beanstalk is hosted a SVN service, because I screw up my own repositories all the time.
The cool part is that you can hook scripts into SVN for just about anything with the right knowledge. The bad part is that, with hosted SVN, you generally don't have the ability to set up those hooks. Here is how I got around that little caveat. (more…)
